Electra Receives Initial Purchase Order from Lafarge

Mr. J. T. Shearer, President, is pleased to report that Electra Gold Ltd. has received a
$300,000 purchase order for cement raw materials from Lafarge Cement’s Richmond British
Columbia plant. Lafarge North America is the largest diversified supplier of construction
materials in the U.S. and Canada.

Delivery will comprise two barges, the first shipped on August 18 and the second to ship to
Lafarge within the current quarter. Selection of Electra’s material falls under Lafarge’s
“Excellence 2008” performance program to achieve unsurpassed operating results in all areas
of the company’s business, including its world leading cement product division.

Lafarge plans to conduct a 30-day trial of Electra’s material. Lafarge has outlined specific
criteria for material that meets long-term supply contract specifications.

The Company has been in discussion with Lafarge to establish a long-term supply contract over
the past year. Typical time horizons on such contracts may exceed five or ten years.

“This initial purchase order is a significant first step on the path to establishing a long term
relationship with Lafarge. We are pleased to be selected under Lafarge’s Excellence 2008

initiative to improve overall performance in cement products operations. We believe the
quality of our cement raw materials will meet and or exceed Lafarge’s requirements and that
we will move on to the next stage in a productive business relationship,” said Electra
president Jo Shearer.

Electra Gold Ltd., for the past four years, has provided cement raw materials to the Ash Grove
Cement Company in Seattle, Washington under a long-term supply contract. The Company
continues to negotiate potential supply contracts with other North American cement
manufacturers.
